Lee Owen Tinsley, who was born on March 4, 1969, and died on January 12, 2023, was an American professional baseball outfielder who played for the Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox, and Philadelphia Phillies in Major League Baseball from 1993 to 1997. (MLB).
He was most recently the assistant hitting coach for the Cincinnati Reds of Major League Baseball.
On March 22, 1994, Tinsley was traded to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for a player to be named later. In his first full season in the majors, he hit.222 in 78 games for them in 1994, while also tying a club record by going 13-for-13 in stolen base attempts.
He began the 1995 season on a 14-game hitting streak, while also completing his first two stolen base attempts of the year, extending his streak to a team record 15 in a row dating back to 1994. Lee went on to have a career-high 15-game hitting streak from June 10 to June 25, finishing the season with a.284 average in 100 games for Boston.
Tinsley was traded by the Red Sox to the Philadelphia Phillies on January 29, 1996, along with Glenn Murray and Ken Ryan, for Heathcliff Slocumb and two minor leaguers. He made 31 appearances for the Phillies before being traded back to Boston on June 9. He batted.245 in 92 of the Red Sox’s final 102 games.
